    Where can I download Stor’eat?

To download the application, open the Apple store or Play store on your smartphone. Then use the search bar to look for Stor’eat (the Stor’eat logo displays a teal blue house) and download the app. Start your very first note!

    What can I scan?

Stor’eat QR codes and all bar codes!

You can scan all Stor’eat products bearing a QR code: the storage boxes with a QR code printed on the handles, the jars, and more. The range will continue to grow before the end of 2020 with plenty of new items such as vacuum-pack bags designed to provide maximum organization for your kitchen.

You can also scan bar codes on industrial products and record expiration dates and dates opened, program alerts to remind you to eat before expiration and check out the nutritional quality of food using the nutri-score.

    How do I scan?

For scanning to work, you must first:

    • Download the app from the Apple Store or Play Store, then create an account
    • Authorize access to your camera. If you haven’t done this, rectify the situation by modifying it in your phone’s settings.
    • Be sure you are connected to the Internet or a Wi-fi account
    • Allow the app to use cellular data, to be configured in your phone’s settings.

You can then press on the “+” icon on the app’s homepage and place the telephone screen in front of the bar code or QR code on a product to scan it. For optimal speed in scanning, it is recommended to fine-tune the focus and preferably to expose the bar code or QR code to good light.

    What are the application’s functions?

    • Better control of your kitchen’s inventory: in just a few clicks, you log all your products in the App and can access this information at any time.
    • Gone with waste thanks to the programmed alerts that remind you to consume your food before its expiration date!
    • Scan the bar codes on industrial products as well and verify their nutritional value. Based on the nutri-score, make the right choices for your health!

    • Link your information to the calendar in your smartphone to better coordinate the organization of your kitchen.
    • Create notes for your preferred products to save time on recording and easily find your favorite dishes.

Are there rules for creating product notes and ensuring a comprehensive inventory?

Yes, there are several rules for entering a product in the application:

    1. Scan the QR codes or bar codes using the “+” button to be able to identify the product in your inventory base.
    2. For the QR code, it is mandatory to enter a note corresponding to the product on the line “what is this?”
    3. You can then record whether it is a perishable product or not.
    4. You then determine your dates of preparing or opening the product and specify its expiration date. Pre-populated fields are proposed with an opening date when the note is created and an expiration date 3 days following the opening.
    5. This is when alerts can be programmed to remind you to use the product before expiration.
    6. The following step corresponds to the selection of the storage location; several places are proposed (cupboard, freezer, refrigerator) or you can enter a location manually.
    7. You can then add a photo taken with your smartphone’s camera as well as any written or voice memos, such as recommendations for storing or cooking, or even a special recipe.
    8. A step for validating the note is mandatory so as to verify the information before registration.

How can I add a product note to my favorites?

When in the product note, click on the “heart” icon at the bottom of the note.

If you didn’t do this when creating the note, you can add it at any time by returning to the note and clicking on the heart icon.

All favorites are then available from the menu at the upper right of the main screen, just click on “My favorites” in the list of options in this menu.

How can I delete scans from the history?

Product notes can be deleted using the main screen. Just swipe towards the left on a product and then validate the deletion. You can also make a product note disappear if you eat or throw out a product by clicking on the corresponding button inside the product note.

Can I share product notes in the app?

Yes, there is a share function for the product notes in the app.

Communicate with your family about the dishes you cooked over the weekend or warn them of a product with an upcoming expiration date that should be eaten.

To do this, you should go to the selected product note then click on the share icon to select the means of communication. You can thus send your product note to the selected people by email, text or instant messaging.

I don’t see the food that is soon to expire in my calendar even though I have activated that option.

When you activate the option “link to telephone calendar”, any entries created after configuring this parameter will synchronize automatically with your calendar. Anything entered previously cannot be synchronized.

  • RECOMMENDATIONS & INFORMATION

How do I estimate best-before dates?

Stor’eat does not claim to give the exact best-before dates for products prepared at home. The goal is to estimate an effective best-before date so as to avoid forgetting about a product and thereby reduce any food waste. Nevertheless, it is possible to modify and extend this date at any time. For scanned industrial products, a best-before date or minimum durability date is indicated on the product’s packaging, which can be entered into the app and used to program an alert at the appropriate time.

    What are product recalls?

A product recall is an operation where a manufacturer or distributor asks their clients to return merchandise that is either defective or that presents a health or safety risk. In France, 367 food product recalls were inventoried in 2019, more than one product per day! Stor’eat breaks new ground by including product recalls in its application. If a product registered in your app is concerned by a product recall, you will receive a notification that will let you make an informed decision about what to do. You should check all relevant information about the recall such as the batch numbers so as to be certain that your product is included in the recall procedure. In this case, a solution may be suggested as well as the contact information for the distributor’s or manufacturer’s customer service.

How is the data base for displaying the nutri-score set up?

Stor’eat is primarily based on the Open Food Fact database that identifies food products from around the world, but mostly from Europe. It is a non-profit project developed by thousands of volunteers from around the world, just like Wikipedia. This food database can help to make more informed decisions and to establish a nutri-score: an accepted indicator for indicating nutritional quality and for developing better eating habits. Each product is ranked according to a scale of 5, from the most preferable on a nutritional level (class A) to the least preferable on a nutritional level (class E).

  • HISTORY & COMMUNICATION

    What is Stor’eat’s mission?

Our mission is to help households better manage the food in their kitchen: to remind them to eat a product before the expiration date and thus enable each person to help fight against food waste on a daily basis. We believe that by better mastering their inventory, users will consume using a more environmentally-friendly approach and thus reduce food waste. Stor’eat reflects a desire to encourage homemade products that have a positive impact on our health and to provide clear information on industrial products using a nutri-score for more enlightened eating habits.

Where did the Stor’eat idea come from?

The idea came from daily life in the Mastrad offices where we observed an alarming amount of poor management of food waste in our common fridge: plenty of forgotten food that ended up in the trash. The Stor’eat project came to life thanks to the shrewd insight of our founder, working with all our teams, with a solution to end waste involving a truly useful but simple app for handling perishable goods. Initially rooted in a group ambition to do better, environmentally-friendly awareness became part of the corporate holistic vision of smart connected products. In addition, the Mastrad slogan “L’art de l’utile” [the art of utility] is totally in line with the Stor’eat goal of helping to organize your kitchen.

How does Stor’eat play a part in reducing food wastage?

Combating food waste has become a global challenge over the past several years in an effort to preserve our natural resources. It is urgent that we rally together to find solutions to what is environmental, economic and social folly. Stor’eat is a natural part of this approach as it offers the possibility to draw up an exhaustive list of all foodstuffs in your kitchen and program alerts to help you remember to eat them before expiration. Furthermore, all items in the Stor’eat range are designed to help preserve food longer thanks to airtight silicone seals on containers and vacuum-pack bags that guarantee long-term freshness.

Where does the name Stor’eat come from?

Stor’eat comes from a logical contraction of “storage” in English which means “store room” and “eat” for the nutritional and dietary aspect. The idea was to create a name that would indicate the reason behind the application. This name resonates with users and is in keeping with the concept of optimizing a kitchen’s organization.

  • VACUUM-SEAL BAGS

How do I use the vacuum seal system and bags?

Lay the bag flat on the counter.

Fill the vacuum-seal bag, being careful not to fill past the maximum level (marked on the bag).

Use the clip to close the bag.

Place the pump on the bag’s air valve.

Turn the pump ON to seal the bag.

Push OFF once the bag has adjusted to the contents and all air has been removed. Removing the air takes between 10 to 15 seconds.

Place immediately in storage (freezer, fridge, cupboard, etc.)

Can the bags be used more than once?

The vacuum-seal bags can be washed and used many times.

    Are the bags dishwasher safe?

We recommend that you wash the bags by hand. Just wash with a damp sponge and rinse: the bag is ready for use again. Just turn them inside out to wash the inside and dry also inside out.

How do I recharge the pump? How much time does it take to recharge the pump? How many times can it be used when recharged?

The vacuum pump can be recharged using the USB cable provided with the pump. It takes 2.5 hours to fully charge the battery. You can seal approximately 200 bags per charge.

How do I know when all the air has been extracted from the bag?

During the vacuum sealing operation, all the air will be removed and the bag will adjust tightly to its contents. Removing the air takes between 10 to 15 seconds depending on the size of the bag. Once all the air has been removed, the sound of the vacuum pump changes.

How do I hermetically seal the bags?

A small clip is provided in the pack. You just have to slide the clip along the double zip.

What are the clips provided in the pack used for?

The small clips included in the pack will help when vacuum cooking to prevent any deterioration of the air valve. You just have to turn the edge of the bag over the valve and hold it closed using the clips. This protects the valve from steam and keeps the bag from being totally immersed in the water.

Can the bags be used for sous-vide cooking?

Once vacuum sealed using the Stor’eat pump, the bags can be used for sous-vide cooking. The bags resist cooking temperatures of up to 212°F/100°C. The small clips provided in the pack will help to protect the bag and to hold it in place during the sous-vide cooking process.

Where should I store the bags once vacuum sealed? Can the bags be used for freezing?

Once vacuum sealed with the Stor’eat pump, the bags can be stored in your fridge or freezer; they prevent any freezer burn.

Will the pump work with other bags? The bags with another pump?

The vacuum bags and pump were developed together. We can therefore not guarantee they will work with other products on the market.

Where on the bags should I put the QR codes? Are the QR codes to be used only once?

The QR codes can be stuck anywhere you prefer and where you can easily see them. Nonetheless, you should not put them over the air valve. The QR codes can be used multiple times thanks to the Stor’eat app. Using the Stor’eat app, you can modify and use them again.

How do I know when the pump is charged?

After connecting the pump to its charger, it will need 2.5 hours to be fully charged. A red LED appears while the pump is charging; it will turn green once the pump is completely charged.

Can I vacuum seal a liquid?

You must not use the vacuum pump for liquid preparations. We recommend that you freeze liquids until they are solid before vacuum sealing them.

Can I put the bags in the microwave? In the oven?

The vacuum seal bags are not designed to be used in the microwave or the oven.

What are the sizes of the vacuum seal bags? Of the pump?

They are available in 3 sizes:

    S -> 5.5 cups/1.3L – 8.3 x 8.6 in/ 21 x 22 cm

    M -> 12.5 cups/3 L – 11 x 10.2 in/28 x 26 cm

    L -> 25 cups/6 L – 11.8 x 13.3 in/30 x 34 cm

    Pump: 4.5 x 2 x 2 in/11.5 x 5 x 5cm – 5.3 oz/150g – Power: 2.96Wh – Battery: 800mAh

How thick are the bags? Why are they embossed?

Our smart bags are 0.013 in/0.33 mm thick. The embossed texture makes it possible to remove any air more quickly from the bags.

    Do the bags contain BPA?

We are meticulous in ensuring that our products meet all industry standards. Our bags are therefore BPA-free.
